Workplace Safety is our most important priority. We have strict policies and training courses in place to ensure that all employees are educated on safe operating procedures. We are proud to announce that in 2011, our strict measures have resulted in a 50% reduction in LTIFR (Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate) from 2010 as well as improvements in MTIFR (Medical Treatment Injury Frequency Rate) and Hazard reporting.
Our employees are our greatest asset. Each year, we conduct an Engagement Survey to collectively measure our employees satisfaction in the workplace. The results of these surveys help us to continue to improve and make OfficeMax a better place to work.
We believe very strongly in employee development, succession planning and to promote internally where possible. In May 2012, almost 50% of our vacancies advertised from the beginning of the year were filled by internal candidates.
